Michael McIntyre

Michael McIntyre was born into show-business in 1976, with a father who wrote sketches for Kenny Everett and a mother who was a dancer, so it was perhaps inevitable that a career on the stage would beckon. Famous for his extensive stand-up tours, McIntyre first performed in 1999, but it took nearly another decade before his efforts and punishing work schedule began to bear fruit. Successful stints at the Edinburgh Festival and constant comedy club touring, enhanced a glowing word-of-mouth reputation that began to see many of his shows sell out within hours of tickets going on sale. His big TV break was arguably an appearance at the 2006 Royal Variety Performance, followed by yet more touring, and he sold out shows at the Edinburgh Festival, plus a five-night stint at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2008. McIntyre would return to the Apollo to host the BBC's Live From The Apollo comedy stand up showcase, and in 2009 was given his own show, Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow, which came from a different venue each week.

McIntyre's energetic routines, high-pitched voice, and speedy delivery, coupled with sharp social observation and well-observed satire, have garnered him a faithful live audience, and he has been nominated (and won) for several awards, including the South Bank Show Awards, British Comedy Awards, Perrier Award and Chortle Awards. His Live & Laughing DVD sold in record numbers in 2008, yet even that was eclipsed by Hello Wembley! in 2009.

Radio appearances include guest spots on Desert Island Discs, The Chris Moyles Show, The Jonathan Ross Show and Does The Team Think? In 2011, McIntyre joined the panel of Britain's Got Talent, alongside Amanda Holden and David Hasselhoff. This was the first time viewers got to see the 'real' Michael, and he was often seen to be visibly moved by some of the acts performing before him. McIntyre is also a regular contributor to panel shows such as Mock The Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats and Would I Lie To You? and once appeared on Top Gear as the “Star In A Reasonably Priced Car”, getting around the track in 1min 48.7 secs. Also in 2011, McIntyre became the youngest ever host of the Royal Variety Performance, taking him back to the event which gave him his first television break five years before.

McIntyre will embark on a 58-date tour of the UK and Ireland in the autumn of 2012, to be followed by a DVD release just in time for Christmas.
