Born in London in 1989, producer and rapper Timothy McKenzie, aka Labrinth, first shot to fame working with Tinie Tempah on his UK No.1 hit, “Pass Out” in 2010. Before this, he'd produced for artists like Master Shortie and Pixie Lott. His second collaboration with Tempah, “Frisky” (2010), reached No.2, and he went on to provide vocals on tracks by Professor Green, Devlin, amongst others. His own debut single, “Let The Sun Shine”, reached No.3 in the UK charts in September 2010, and his second single, “Earthquake”, went one better in October 2011.
His producing work includes partnerships with Ola Svensson, Preeya Kalidas and JLS, and he remixes Gorillaz' single, “Stylo” (2010), adding vocals by his longtime friend, Tempah. Labrinth appears in the video for Raghav's single, “So Much” (2010), and also for Master Shortie's “Dead End” (2010), which he produced. In 2010, Labrinth became the first artist in six years to sign to Simon Cowell's Syco label, having not been the product of a talent show. Within Syco, Labrinth made a deal to create his own imprint, called Odd Child Recordings, which has the main aim of rooting out young, unsigned act. His first signee was Etta Bond, who went on to appear on Wretched 32's album, Black And White, in 2011.
Labrinth's first studio album, Electronic Earth, will be released in March 2012.
