Il Divo

Manufactured by Simon Cowell in 2004, Il Divo comprises Urs Buhler, Sebastien Izambard, David Miller and Carlos Marin, and were put together after Cowell saw how successful the classical vocal group, G4, had become with the public, after their appearances in The X Factor. Cowell spent two years searching the world for the right quartet, before deciding on the present line-up, and their first, self-titled album, was released in 2004, and contained a mix of opera standards and classical versions of pop favourites. After appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show a year later, the album shot to the top of the US Classical Chart, and demand for the group increased. Altogether, the album topped the charted in 13 countries, including the UK. Their follow-up album, Ancora (2005), also went to No.1 across the world, and included a duet with Celine Dion, “I Believe In You”, and a Spanish version of “All By Myself”. A Christmas album sold well in 2005, before 2006 saw them reach even dizzier heights, appearing as Barbra Streisand's special guests on her North American tour, and also singing the official song of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, “The Time Of Our Lives”, with Toni Braxton, at the tournament's opening match. The song can only be found on their album, Voices From The FIFA World Cup (2006).

Siempre (2006) and The Promise (2008) were also big successes, and 2011 saw the release of Wicked Game, which preceded plans for a world tour in 2011/2012. In December 2011, they played to nearly 35,000 people in Asuncion, Paraguay, their highest-attended concert to date. Il Divo have also released six DVDs, including Live in London (2011), plus two pictorial books, detailing their rise to fame.
