Ex-lead singer with punk band, Million Dead, Frank Turner went solo in 2005 after the band split, and turned his attentions to more acoustic, guitar-based sounds. His first EP, Campfire Punkrock (2006), was recorded with a backing band (who continue to support him in live shows), and he then went to the US to play with Jonah Matranga, with whom he released another EP the same year. After becoming the last act to appear on Steve Lamacq's Lamacq Live show on Radio 1, Turner recorded his first full solo album, Sleep Is For The Week (2007), followed by a tour. Another EP, The Real Damage, came out the same year, after which he toured again, reuniting with Jonah Matranga. His second studio album, Love Ire & Song (2008), came off the back of a long tour, and he followed this with numerous festival appearances, including Y Not, Cambridge Folk Festival and Glastonbury.
Whilst on the road promoting Love Ire & Song, Turner was struck down with gastroenteritis, and had to cancel the remaining dates, but recovered to release a compilation of demos called The First Three Years (2009), and he then supported The Offspring on their US tour, an experience he blogged about for NME. His third studio album, Poetry Of The Deed, was released in September 2009, followed by yet another tour, which climaxed with a sell-out gig at London's O2 Shepherd's Bush. He toured again in 2010, before heading back to the US to support Green Day, and finishing the summer doing the festival rounds.
In 2011, Turner released his fourth album, England Keep My Bones, as well as a second compilation album, The Second Three Years, and he was promoted to the main stage at the Reading & Leeds Festivals that summer. He continues to tour extensively, and is working on his fifth album for 2012.
